A very good player doesn't cease to be very good from one month to the next.

But if he sees he isn't being used properly or is not getting the proper support, he's unlikely to preform to his full potential on the pitch and will make his frustration known.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if this was now happening with Song.

We'll miss the Alex song of up to a month ago but the version that has played lately has disappointed me.

Re: Alex Song opts to play in African Cup of Nations
Woody- because he's chosen to go having been overlooked in the first place which indicates to me that rather than stay with us and help us continue our good run he'd rather be playing in some two bob cup, for someone who didn't think he was good enough to make the first squad, he's a bit of an after thought.

Add to that the WTF look he had on his face after the West Brom game and I would say the likelihood of him staying is veering towards the negative.

Just a view you understand I can't see into the future!

This is a negative and we will miss him but some of the stuff posted on this thread is proper "woe is me", "End of the world" stuff.

Have seen him throw his hands up and do a couple of double teapots when Ginger has launched instead of giving him the ball.
As said many times the balance of the team isn't right as it is if we are looking to play as well as we did earlier.
Odd as the players to play as we did v Liverpool & City have been available.
Couldn't see Song being keen in playing on for the team v West Brom.

I can't see Song playing for us next season as we appear to of gone back to long ball without an end result.

Ominous sign this could be an indicator as to whether he's inclined to stay with us for next season and beyond!

Re: Alex Song opts to play in African Cup of Nations
Why would Poyet play?

He's a young lad with v little Prem exp and we have Downing, Noble, Nolan, Amalf and Jarvis available to play in midfield plus Vaz Te - though VT is a waste of space IMO!

Sakho hasn't left yet because he is injured

Chance for young Poyet to get involved now.

Surely he's got to play tomorrow?

I see that Southampton have managed to get Mane injured.... be interesting to see when he is back playing for Southampton.

Re: Alex Song opts to play in African Cup of Nations
could we not even arrange for song kouyate and sakho to pick up injuries that would have ruled them out of the tournament?

Well he is only one player.
He is our best player mind.

We'll be better, we was starting to slow down having to pass every attack through Song, the tempo had stalled.
